Put your best foot forward at walking festival in Burnley
A sculpture trail hunt and a map reading course are among the activities at a free festival at Towneley Park in Burnley on Friday 23 August.
Newground, part of Together Housing Group, is hosting the Active Together Walking Festival at its award-winning permaculture project Offshoots.
James Kenyon, Active Spaces Officer at Newground, said: “From tots and teens right through to more mature walkers, the walking festival offers something for everyone.
“We hope the festival will encourage people to leave the house and make the most of the green space on their doorstep. Walking is also a great way to spend time with the family and learn about nature.”
The day starts at 10am with a four mile / two hour walk from the War Memorial around Towneley Park and Barcroft Hall. There is also a shorter one to two mile / 30-45 minute walk from outside the Main Hall entrance exploring Towneley Park at 11am.
For families, there is a one mile / one hour parent and children sculpture trail hunt from Offshoots at 10am.
In the afternoon, the longer walk is repeated from 1.30pm, the shorter walk from 2pm and the sculpture trail from 1.30pm. There is also an Introduction to Map Reading course at Offshoots from 2pm.
Throughout the day, there will be children’s games and activities in Offshoots and the park itself and refreshments and lunch will be available at a small charge.
