Festival showcases designs from the next generation of makers
Young creatives were given the opportunity to showcase their designs this weekend at the Festival of Making, sponsored by Blackburn Business Improvement District (BID).
As part of the free family festival, BID, for which Newground is the accountable body, delivered a Future Makers Market, allowing young entrepreneurs to sell their own created, curated, designed or upcycled product line.
Products on offer included paintings and illustrations from Creative Arts students from Blackburn College and heat press gifts including cards, keyrings and mugs from the college’s Get Set Supported Internships. Other items included handmade jewellery, tote bags, t-shirts and cakes.
Catherine Price, Blackburn Town Centre BID Manager, said: “The Future Makers Market was not only an opportunity for the next generation of creative entrepreneurs to test their business ventures but also a chance to be part of a unique celebration of making.
“We hope that by putting them in the same arena as some of the nation’s most innovative makers and shakers who are making a living from their creative skills, they will see what’s possible and be inspired to pursue their dreams.”
Blackburn and Darwen Hive Business Network supported the event by offering mentorship for any young traders who want to expand their business talents beyond the festival.
