FINSLEY GATE WHARF
Newground worked closely with the Canal and Rivers Trust to create a development plan for an embankment along the Leeds Liverpool canal corridor. Finsley Gate Wharf has been regenerated into an important visitor destination. As part of the regeneration of the area, the CRT needed a plan to give access to a wilder part of the site for outdoor learning and community events.
A plan was created that enhances biodiversity of the site with native tree planting, areas for wildflowers, a pond area, and accessible paths, ramps and forest school seating spaces, utilising the steep topography of the land to enhance views across the site.
‘We are really excited about the fantastic wildlife garden plan that Newground have created for our new visitor attraction at Finsley Gate Wharf in Burnley.
It will provide a unique learning experience and opportunity for our local community, regional and national visitors including schoolchildren. The sustainable design and biodiversity that it will encourage will provide an invaluable learning resource to help us to meet one our projects key aims, to inspire, engage and grow the public’s love, understanding, respect and appreciation the wonders of wildlife.’
